Students build upon and increase listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the target language. In higher levels of study, continued emphasis on oral communicative skills is stressed through constant conversation (goal is speaking Japanese with the instructor 80-100% of the time). Students will continue to develop their Japanese proficiency through extensive spontaneous interaction with a native speaker in the language. In addition, the student will develop cultural awareness and become prepared to encounter real life situations outside of the classroom through in-class discussions of cultural customs and behavior, videos, Internet research and by reading authentic materials written in the target language. High school credit is granted upon successful completion of the course.
