Hi & Konnichiha! Watashi ha Akiko sensei desu, I am a native Japanese speaker born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, who loves Hello Kitty, Tofu Miso Soup, and students interested in learning Japanese! Learning Japanese is not only for acquiring linguistic skills but also for learning Japanese culture and the heart of the people. I am thrilled and honored to be sharing and discovering the world of Japan with you!! My academic philosophy is to teach and learn subjects the most enjoyable and intriguing way. I welcome students making mistakes, so we can all learn from those mistakes and make progress! I have taught and tutored Japanese for over 6 years, both at private and public schools. I am enthusiastic to interact and teach students to help reach their desired goals. If you’re willing to learn, regardless if you’re struggling to reach your potential, I will dedicate my undivided time and attention to ensure your success. Seeing students’ curiosity and genuine smiles entices to strive to attain more pedagogic skills, thus I am currently in a Master’s of Human Science Education learning Adolescent Psychology program. I was born and raised in Tokyo, but had an opportunity of becoming a high school exchange student in New Hampshire in the 90’s. As a result of this experience, I know how exciting but difficult it is to study foreign languages once a person’s native language has been set. Despite the challenges, with your interest and my passion for Japanese, we will make this opportunity the uppermost learning experience! I live in Northern Virginia with my husband, two daughters, and a bunny named “Oreo.” I am looking forward to learning Japanese with you soon! Do-mo Arigatou!!
