Kaycee S.

LanguageBird American Sign Language Instructor

Hello! My name is Kaycee. I grew up in Colorado after my father finished several terms with the United States Marine Corps. I am an ASL native signer after becoming Deaf at age 2. I utilized sign language and spoken language growing up being the sole Deaf person in my family and school. I studied Criminal Justice and Legal Studies at Rochester Institute of Technology. After my internship with New York State Division of Human Rights and several positions at RIT, I discovered that I wanted to teach. I got my Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education and Curriculum Instruction from Arizona State University. My thesis was on the implementation of a bilingual curriculum to promote language acquisition through the utilization of traditional flashcards in English and ASL. I moved to Austin, Texas in 2020 to teach Deaf children and to be an ASL mentor for college athletes at University of Texas. I love the incorporation of using ASL and working with people, it is a passion of mine. I have been teaching academic content and ASL for a total of two years now and will continue to do so. I am a professional, enthusiastic, and engaging teacher with tremendous patience. I am looking forward to share the beautiful language of ASL with you, and for you to understand the language to its depth and feel confident in signing with other ASL users that you may bump into. When I am not teaching, you can find me on the lake on my stand up paddle board with my two corgis. When I am not on the water, I am often found cooking and uploading new recipes onto my cooking blog, tending my plants (I have over 30!), and playing on various different recreational leagues within the community.
