After years of wishing I could understand and sing along with my favorite Rammstein songs, I finally had the chance to take a German course in my early days of community college. Three years later I graduated from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) with my B.A. in German Studies and a minor in Linguistics, and an intense love for language and cultures of the German speaking countries. I enjoyed a further three years at CSULB in the M.A. program for German studies, where I taught numerous German courses both in a classroom and online, and in 2016 I was awarded a grant to teach German at the Deutsche Sommerschule von Taos, NM (a German immersion program). Since graduating I have enjoyed continued opportunities to work with German cultural institutions in California, including the Goethe Institut, the Villa Aurora, the Thomas Mann Haus, and the German American School Association, where I currently work as an upper-level instructor.
When it comes to teaching, my focus is making sure that my students feel comfortable speaking the target language and know that making mistakes is all part of learning. I am patient and flexible, and happy to tailor my lessons to individual students as I understand that what works for one may not work for all. I aim to keep students engaged by intertwining my lessons with music, videos, and improv games that focus on target vocabulary to keep things fun. I look forward to sharing my love and knowledge of the German language and culture with you!
