Hello, I’m Mushtaq, originally from Iraq. Since elementary school, I have shown a strong interest in languages, using my sharp attention to detail and my ability to articulate words and sounds in both my native language, Arabic, and in English. My passion for investing in myself led me to earn the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Linguistics at the University of Montana, where I graduated among the top achievers in 2012.
My journey in language teaching began in 2006, when I taught English in middle schools, high schools, and at a private university in my home country. After relocating to the U.S. in 2017, I used my expertise in Arabic, including Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and dialects, to teach members of the U.S. military online. Furthermore, working as an Assistant Professor of Arabic at the DLIFLC in Monterey, California, for more than six years has deepened my knowledge and expertise in creative methods and techniques for teaching Arabic to young U.S. servicemembers in intensive 63-week courses.
I also enjoy sharing aspects of my culture with my students, and I have participated in countless activities, including seminars and presentations, both during graduate school and while teaching Arabic here in the U.S. I can be an excellent resource for my students on various aspects of the Arabic-speaking world, including politics, economics, demographics, and culture.
