“LanguageBird is one of the tricks I share with the families I work with in my college counseling practice. Students who take a foreign language throughout high school have increased odds of getting accepted to top universities and increased opportunities for scholarships.”

Beyond Admissions: Lifelong Benefits

Language learning also provides critical cognitive and career advantages:

Stronger Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving Skills

Enhances brain function and academic performance.

Expanded Career Opportunities

Increases employability in fields like business, diplomacy, tech, and healthcare.

Global Networking

Builds connections across cultures, preparing students for success in an interconnected world.

How Many Years of Language Should Students Take?

The more competitive the college is, the more language study they expect.

  • 2 years – Minimum for most college admissions
  • 3 years – Recommended by many selective schools
  • 4 years – Expected for highly competitive universities (e.g., Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia)

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, students who complete advanced levels of foreign language study are more likely to attend and succeed in college.

“My son struggled to learn a foreign language in a traditional classroom setting, but LanguageBird made it possible for him to thrive. His instructor, Eva, took the time to understand his learning style and tailored the course to ensure he could succeed. Although my son has now earned all the world language credits required for high school graduation, he has decided to continue with Italian 3. That is a testament to the positive experience he’s had. We are incredibly grateful for the flexibility and personalized approach that LanguageBird offers.”
