Guten Tag! My name is Heike, and I grew up near Frankfurt, Germany. Today, I live in Florida, but German has remained at the center of my working life.
For ten years, I taught German at the German Saturday School in San Jose, where I served as head teacher for the high school and adult program. I also built and led an exam preparation class, coaching teenagers through their official German language examinations. There is nothing quite like watching a student who once dreaded speaking a foreign language walk into an oral exam and hold their own.
I hold a Master’s degree in TESOL from San Jose State University and have also taught ESOL to beginning and advanced adult learners. I believe every student finds their own path to fluency, so I adjust my pace, materials, and approach until something clicks.
My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and honest. I love bringing German culture, holidays, food, and everyday expressions into my lessons because language is about more than grammar.
I have lived and worked in Germany, Great Britain, and the United States, and I have studied Spanish and French. These experiences have reminded me what it feels like to learn a new language—and how rewarding it is when the words finally come.
I look forward to helping you speak German with real confidence. Ich freue mich auf dich!
