My name is Andy and I am the Director of Technology for LanguageBird. I studied Linguistics with an Emphasis in Chinese at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I have several years in the education field, ranging from instructor and administrative positions.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Both of my parents are from El Salvador and we also have family in Guatemala. We are Indigenous Lenca people from El Salvador. I grew up interpreting/translating from Spanish to English and vise versa for my parents, which led me to a passion for language.

I speak English and Spanish at a fluently, Mandarin Chinese at a basic level, and I have research knowledge on Mescalero Apache, Maya K’iche’, Tongva, Nawat, Lenca from Honduras, and Lenca from El Salvador. My passion is in the revitalization and documentation of my people’s dormant language and culture. I love to learn about culture and science, I love to travel, and I love to dance.
