Cassie H.

LanguageBird ASL Instructor

My name is Cassie H. I grew up in Colorado and was Colorado native until I moved to a small town in Wyoming four years ago. I am ASL native signer since I was little girl along with few years of speech therapy. I studied athletic training and medial field for 5 years to complete my Bachelor of Science degree at University of Northern Colorado. Also, I was in process of completing my Master’s degree into Deaf education at UNC, however, I decided to transfer my Master’s degree to RIT in Rochester, New York and completed my degree in Deaf Education with emphasizing in science fields. My brother who is also Deaf and has ADHD due to the lacks of communication at home inspired me to teach ASL and stop the language deprivation of ASL in the Deaf early childhood. I have been teaching ASL as a private instructor for more than 10 years; providing private sessions or tutors to the community, employees, and the families of a deaf child. You can see that I am passionate in teaching people ASL when it comes to the interaction between the Hearing and Deaf community. My one of goals is for you to know how to approach the Deaf person and how to interact with them by learning ASL and Deaf Culture.

Enough of my experience throughout teaching, I enjoy outdoor activities; camping, traveling, fishing, and swimming. My hobbies are painting, crafts, and photography. Also, I have a little wild-willed girl who is Hearing and learning ASL with me. I have been involved in many Deaf events such as AHIHA (American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association Camp), Aspen Camp for the Deaf, Deaf Night Out, Deaf Plays, Sertoma Field of Dreams Baseball Camp for the hearing loss, and being President of Sign Language Club at UNC 2004-2008.
