Hello! Konnichiwa! I was born and raised in Minnesota, and grew up speaking both Japanese and English. Every Saturday from kindergarten through high school, I attended a Saturday Japanese School, where we spoke Japanese with our classmates and teachers. We learned to read and write basic Hiragana and Katakana in kindergarten, and learned to read and write Kanji characters from first grade. We were also introduced to well known Japanese literature, and celebrated Japanese holidays together. I have visited Japan over ten times- my grandparents are from Miyagi and Iwate, both from Northern prefectures of the main island. For few years, I was able to experience school life in Japan just for a few weeks during the summer. My main field of work is piano accompanying- mainly for high school choirs, but I also accompany ballet classes and musical theater productions. I also teach piano lessons, and on Saturdays I teach at a Japanese school as a kindergarten teacher. I currently live in Michigan with my husband and our dog. 🙂 I am very patient, flexible, and easy going. I strive to incorporate different mediums during a lesson to make it into a fun and inviting learning environment. I look forward to sharing my experiences and knowledge on Japanese language culture with you!
