Hello! My name is Kumi. I was born in Tokyo and grew up in Yokohama. Now I live in Pennsylvania with my dog and husband.

I have been teaching Japanese for over 20 years, mostly at colleges and universities in the U.S. I met so many students with various backgrounds and truly enjoy learning about them and sharing my love for Japanese language and culture. Japanese is such a beautiful and interesting language, and the culture has a rich history from traditional to the fascinating pop culture, such as anime and manga (comic books)! My approach to teaching is to create an environment where students feel relaxed and enjoy the process of learning. Leaning should be fun!

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my dog and husband, listening to live jazz music, reading, watching movies, and trying different foods!
